Swedish Water House

Swedish Water House is a nationally anchored platform within SIWI that connects Swedish actors with global water governance and international policy processes. Established by the Government of Sweden in 2003, it was created to mobilize, coordinate, and strengthen Sweden’s engagement in international water issues.

Why a national platform matters

Sweden has a long-standing reputation for leadership in water management, environmental policy, and sustainable development. At the same time, global water challenges are becoming more complex and interconnected, shaped by climate change, biodiversity loss, and growing demands on water resources. Addressing these challenges requires strong coordination across sectors and the ability to link national expertise with international decision-making.

How SIWI contributes

Swedish Water House works to bridge this gap as part of SIWI’s mission and strategic objectives. It brings together Swedish government agencies, researchers, companies, and civil society through dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collaboration, and connects their expertise to global water governance arenas. At the same time, it brings international developments in water governance back to Swedish actors, supporting learning, coordination, and informed engagement.

What Swedish Water House enables

As a strategic sub-platform within SIWI, Swedish Water House reinforces SIWI’s Swedish roots while advancing its global role as a trusted convenor and knowledge broker in water governance. By linking Swedish strengths with international agendas, Swedish Water House helps strengthen Sweden’s voice in global water cooperation and supports more coherent, effective contributions to shared water challenges.
